Finally got into Terraforming Mars and I'm hooked

Patchwork is the best two-player game under thirty minutes and I will defend that position confidently. The quilt-building mechanism creates a spatial puzzle unique to each session. The time track creates opportunity cost for every button acquisition. The endgame scoring for empty quilt spaces creates a penalty that makes sloppy placement feel appropriate.

The game takes fifteen minutes to learn and never outstays its welcome. At my household, it is the default game when we have thirty minutes and want something complete rather than a partial session of something larger.

Patchwork Doodle is the larger-player-count roll-and-write adaptation that loses some of the two-player tension but creates a simultaneous puzzle experience for up to six. Both are worth owning for different group contexts.
