The rise of the medium-weight euro

Ticket to Ride's end-game tension is created by the single remaining route rule — when someone takes the route that triggers the game end, two more turns remain for everyone else. Timing when to connect your final routes versus when to draw more tickets creates a mid-game pacing decision that shapes how the game ends.

Players who draw multiple destination tickets late in the game are taking a risk: if the game ends before they can complete new tickets, those tickets score negative. Experienced players read the route scarcity on the board to predict when end-game is near and adjust their ticket acquisition accordingly.

For groups playing Ticket to Ride competitively: watch the route supply on contested corridors. When popular three and four-length routes start disappearing, the game end is approaching. Completing your existing tickets before drawing new ones is usually the correct conservative play in the final third of the game.
