Describing every film as a director's vision erases the work of the DP, editor, and production designer
After a year of trial and error, I finally figured out the key to Nolan. It sounds obvious in hindsight but: the fundamentals never go out of style.
I was doing it completely wrong before and getting frustrated. Once I made this change, everything clicked.
Hope this helps someone else avoid the same mistake I made.
