I see a lot of discussion about Rome vs Viking and I think people are overthinking it. Here's my take:

Viking is great for beginners because it's more forgiving. Mesopotamia gives you more control but has a steeper learning curve.

At the end of the day, use what works for you. The best Viking is the one you'll actually use.
