Brass Birmingham makes you feel like an industrialist

My current game room setup took two years of iteration to reach. The dedicated gaming table — a Rathskeller with felt top and large enough for Gloomhaven — was the biggest quality-of-life upgrade. The shelf arrangement, the card sorting drawers, the dice tray collection — all came after.

If you are building a game space from scratch, the table is the priority. Surface area matters more than any other physical factor. A larger table makes heavy games more pleasant. A felt surface prevents component damage. Cup holders prevent spills. Everything else is optimization.

Lighting is underrated. Overhead ambient light supplemented by directional task lighting reduces eye strain and makes game iconography more legible. This matters especially for games with small print like Through the Ages or Terraforming Mars.
