How Wingspan taught me to love birds in real life

Wingspan Europe expansion adds the brown powers tuck mechanic and the winter round, which fundamentally changes how you think about drafting birds in all four rounds. Birds that generate tucking in winter become far more valuable. Birds that generate eggs or food in non-winter rounds become relatively less valuable in late-round comparison.

The new birds are more mechanically complex than the base set, introducing interaction patterns that base-game birds only hint at. Players transitioning from base Wingspan to Europe often find that their strategies need recalibration.

Oceania changes the food economy significantly through the nectar resource and the Australia habitat board. Playing with both expansions is possible and creates a deep experience. Playing with just one, I recommend Europe first. It integrates most naturally with the base game's existing season structure.
