The Monopoly problem: why it persists

Tapestry is a visually stunning game that polarized the board game community significantly. Jamey Stegmaier's civilization building design creates satisfying tableau development and the income structure rewards careful tapestry card management. The controversy around balance and some card power disparities is real but has been addressed in errata.

My experience: the game plays faster than its complexity suggests, the civilization asymmetry creates interesting starting conditions, and the tapestry cards create moments of genuine excitement when a strong combination comes together. The capital city mat is one of the most satisfying physical components in modern gaming.

For groups that want a lighter civilization game than Through the Ages or Nations, Tapestry is an excellent option. Go in with accurate expectations: it is a tableau builder with civilization aesthetics, not a deep strategic simulation.
