Getting a Vietnam e-visa — step by step, zero stress
Dental tourism is an underrated budget travel topic and deserves a practical treatment.
The economics: a root canal and crown in the US runs $1,500-3,000. The same procedure in Thailand: $300-600. In Hungary: $400-800. In Mexico (Los Algodones, right across from the Arizona border): $200-500. The savings on a single crown can fund a significant portion of a trip.
The popular destinations: Hungary (Budapest specifically) has an excellent reputation for dental work serving European patients. Clinics there cater to dental tourists with English-speaking staff and Western-standard equipment. Thailand (Bangkok and Chiang Mai) serves Australian and Asian patients extensively. Mexico's border towns serve American patients.
How to find a legitimate clinic: search for clinics with reviews specifically from dental tourists (not just local patients), look for clinics that have been operating for 10+ years, check whether the dentists have credentials from European or North American dental schools or equivalent, and ideally get a recommendation from another traveler who has used the specific clinic.
What to plan around: most substantial dental work requires multiple visits. Budget at least 5-7 days in your destination specifically for dental work with follow-up appointments. Some procedures require a week between initial treatment and final fitting.
