Beginner's guide to VW Beetle?
The 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 with the CJ or SCJ engine is the last Mustang in the first generation's pure performance tradition, and it's priced significantly below its historical significance warrants.
The 1971 body is the largest of the first generation and was controversial when it was introduced. The car grew in every dimension. The wheelbase is three inches longer than the 1969. The body is wider. The proportions are different from the clean simplicity of the original.
The CJ and SCJ 429 cubic inch engines are strong, torquey units that push the car well past 13 seconds in the quarter mile in stock form. The combination of the large body and the large engine gives the Mach 1 a presence that the smaller first-gen Mustangs don't have.
Buy them before the market realizes what 1971 means in the Mustang timeline.
