The Chevelle body style ran from 1964 to 1977, but the 1969-1972 models are where the sweet spot is. The 1969 got the restyled body that's wider and more aggressive than the early cars. The 1970 added the big-block options that define the muscle car era. By 1972 the emissions regulations started strangling the engines.

I own a 1970 SS 454 and I've spent a lot of time understanding what makes that specific year and configuration special. The 454 LS6 in its original tune made 450 horsepower at a time when most manufacturers were starting to detune. It was the last of the unrestricted era.

These cars are becoming rare in original condition. If you want one, buy carefully and buy soon.
