Why I chose a manual transmission for my restomod Camaro

Installing a five-point roll bar in a classic car is one of those projects that sits at the intersection of safety, aesthetics, and practicality.

The safety case is unambiguous for a car that sees track days or performance driving events. A proper roll bar or roll cage is the difference between survivable and unsurvivable in a rollover.

For a street car, the trade-offs are real. A full cage changes the interior completely. Even a simple four-point bar affects rear seat access in a hardtop. The aesthetics of chrome-moly tubing in a period-correct interior are debatable.

My position: a simple harness bar and a driver's-side hoop bar are appropriate for any car that sees spirited driving, even on the street. The full cage is for track-only cars. The decision needs to be made before the interior goes in, not after.
