The electric fuel pump conversion is one of those modifications that straddles the originality and practicality divide. Stock mechanical fuel pumps are reliable and correct. They also run dry on hot-start conditions where vapor lock can cause fuel delivery issues on a hot day after a short stop.
A hidden electric pump — correctly placed near the tank, running at low pressure matched to the carburetor's requirements — solves hot start problems without altering anything visible in the engine bay. You keep the mechanical pump in place as a display item.
This is the category of modification I accept on my own cars: invisible, reversible, solves a real problem. I won't accept modifications that change the car's character just because they improve a specification.
