The chrome versus powder coat debate on classic trim comes down to two things: originality and budget.
Original chrome on original trim, properly restored by a quality plater, is the correct choice for a concours restoration or a car where originality matters to you. It looks right. It has the correct depth and warmth. It will last decades with proper care.
Powder coat is more durable, more chip-resistant, cheaper, and available in a wider range of finishes including ones that closely mimic chrome. For underhood brackets, suspension components, and trim that isn't visible to show judges, powder coat is the practical choice.
Never powder coat bright trim that was originally chromed on a show car. The difference is visible and the judges know it.
