My step-by-step for painting a landscape from imagination

I want to address the common question of whether Krita can replace Photoshop for professional work, because I've done both and the answer depends heavily on your specific use case.

For painting, illustration, and concept art: Krita can fully replace Photoshop. The brush engine is excellent, the color management is professional, and the export options cover all standard formats. I know working professionals who do all client work in Krita.

For photo compositing, photo manipulation, and work that interfaces with other Adobe products: Photoshop's ecosystem advantage is real. The smart object system, the layer effects, and the automation tools in Photoshop are more developed. Krita's equivalents exist but require more workarounds.

For print layout work: neither — use InDesign or Affinity Publisher.

My honest recommendation: try Krita for thirty days on real projects. You will know within a month whether it satisfies your workflow. If you have no Adobe dependencies, it probably will.
