Finally got into Blender and I'm hooked
I've been practicing digital art for five years and I want to write about the periods of no improvement because nobody talks about them.
I had a plateau that lasted about eight months where my work genuinely didn't get better. I kept making pieces. I kept studying. Nothing changed in a visible way. I was frustrated and seriously considered whether I had reached my natural ceiling.
What I later understood: the plateau was an integration phase. I had been accumulating information and practice for two years and my brain was processing it into something usable. The plateau broke in about a week — suddenly multiple things that hadn't been clicking started clicking simultaneously.
This has happened twice more since then. I now recognize the plateau feeling as a sign that something is about to shift rather than a sign that something is wrong. I keep working through it. The work on the other side of the plateau is always qualitatively different.
If you're in a plateau: stay in the practice. The accumulation is happening even if the visible results aren't yet. Changing your approach during a plateau often resets the clock rather than breaking through.
