My experience with Blender after a few weeks

Discussion

My experience with concept art workshops after attending three of them over two years.

Workshop one: online, six weeks, $400. Instructor was a published concept artist with game industry experience. The assignments were well-designed and the feedback was specific. Worth the cost.

Workshop two: in-person, weekend intensive, $300. The class size was too large for meaningful individual feedback. The instructor was talented but spread too thin. The peer interaction was the most valuable part.

Workshop three: online mentorship, one-on-one, $600 for six sessions. This was the most transformative by a significant margin. Personalized feedback on my specific weaknesses changed my work faster than any group format.

Conclusion: one-on-one mentorship at a similar or lower per-session cost outperforms group workshops for most purposes. If you're going to spend money on art education, consider private mentorship seriously. The challenge is finding a mentor whose work you admire and who is willing to teach.
