Dream pop vocals: breathy affectation or genuine style?

I want to talk about independent labels and the curation philosophy that I think separates the great ones from the merely competent.

The best indie labels have a worldview that you can feel in their roster, not just a set of genre preferences. When you discover an artist through a label you trust, you're trusting the label's judgment about what matters — you're borrowing their aesthetic framework as a discovery tool. That's a fundamentally different relationship from what you have with a streaming playlist.

The labels I trust most have a quality that I'd call curatorial courage — they'll sign something that doesn't fit neatly in the genre box they're associated with because they think it's important. When that works, it expands your taste rather than just confirming it. When it doesn't work, it breaks your trust and the curation value disappears.

What labels do you trust enough to buy blind? And what's the thing they signed that tested your trust?
