Palmyra's brief empire under Zenobia (270-273 AD) is one of the most remarkable episodes in late Roman history. A desert city-state briefly controlled Egypt and much of the Eastern Empire before being crushed by Aurelian.

Getting better at painting backgrounds required me to treat them as their own subject, not as a setting for the foreground.
