Shoutout to everyone who helped me with push-up
Integrating Kettlebell Work With Calisthenics
Kettlebell training and calisthenics complement each other well, partly because they emphasize similar movement patterns and partly because they address gaps in each other's programming.
What kettlebells add to a calisthenics program: hip hinge strength (kettlebell swing, single-leg deadlift), loaded carries (farmer's carry builds grip and posterior chain), overhead pressing strength that transfers to handstands, and conditioning work (kettlebell circuits).
What calisthenics adds to kettlebell training: pulling strength (pull-ups address a gap in most kettlebell-only programs), skill development, and body composition changes from the volume of bodyweight movements.
A combined week: 3 calisthenics sessions and 2 kettlebell sessions. The calisthenics sessions cover skill and push/pull work. The kettlebell sessions cover hip hinge, carry, and pressing. The total volume requires careful management — don't simply stack them on top of each other without reducing volume in each.
